Northland Cook Family Ancestory 1800 1941
edmondsallan - hello - I keep seeing off & on enquiries about the
" Cook " Family ancestery. I have put pen to paper ,& created this journal to assist them . I express to you , to the family & readers , that I have only proven officially , approximate 90 %( percent ) of the details . My decision was to print part of my knowledge , only because it may assist someone & also that some ,may be to make sense out of things , I really really not sure about it / unproven research . With a sip of tea trickling down my throat + a cracker with some lovely soft cheese , I'll hit the keys.
GEORGE HOWE COOK and his brother HERBERT FRANCIS COOK come from a seafaring family. Their grand father , I believe was born around 1803 -- 1807 . Where I am not sure . their grand father , William Cook , came to NZ as a third mate on an English - Whaling ship . William married " Tiraha " of Ngapuhi & Kapotai blood lines . " Tiraha " was related to several important Hokianga chiefs including " Tamati Waka Nene " . William & Tiraha were invovled in boat building, in the Bay of Islands & later on in Stewart Island . Their eldest son , " George " went to sea and married " Matilda Hannah Fawkes " in 1849 at Port Ross in the Auckland Islands . He sailed his own ship ( a schooner ) Between Auckland , Rarotonga and Norfolk Island . Later on he commanded " Whaling " ships operating from Sydney . Very often his family travelled with him . " George Howe Cook " was born on the whaling brig " Independence " off Lord Howe island on 8th May 1855. His Brother " Herbert Francis Cook " was born on the 6th November 1859 at Russell . George Cook , senior became a publican before " Herbert was born . In George Cook's family their were four ( 4 ) daughters - three ( 3 ) other sons besides Herbert & George, Herbert also had a half brother , his name I do not know .
