Pana Kareao Nopera Kaitaia
edmondsallan . Good morning - I am copying family notes from around Kaitaia . Why some of this has been researched , I haven't got a clue .
Most of it was gathered by " Arthur " Samuel's Son , who died very early in life . Quite a few paper's documentation is very short . I see he has rated them . He also has scribbled the odd remark on them . Seemed to have been done in a hurry .. Anyway folks, its part of his research and his contribution ,as we are all obliged to do to keep the personal family ancestral flame alight .
" Pana -kareao was the son of the chief " Te Kaha " (** > I always wondered how Te Kaha , further north got its name & they have built some nice retirement homes for the older Maori peoples there -- Now I know where we are I am starting to feel a part of this Journal < ** )
It is said that he named his son after a supple- jack that he got entangled in while trying to escape to fight again . Their doesn't seem to be a date of " Pana-kareao " birth only an estimate which is 1856 .
He was known by several Names - " Noble // Nopera // Tuwhare //and Ngakuku . Well before his father died he was a taking a leading role in the affairs of " Te Patu " and " Te Rarawa " . The Bay of islands chief - " Titore Takiri was related to " Pana - kareao ". He was baptised a christian on the 20th Nov 1836 at Kaitaia .
Till we meet again - Regards -edmondsallan
