Pehr Nilsson & Elna Pehrsson

Journal by julied7432

Hoping anyone can assist with more information on Pehr Nilsson & Elna Pehrsson ( may have been written as Neilsen) who arrived from Sweden in 1871 ( approx) with their children Eloise Alva, Caroline & Nils.
Eloise was my Great, Grandmother with Pehr & Elna being my Great, Great Grandparents.
As I understand they started farming in Mauriceville district, but both Pehr & Elna died when Eloise was only 11.
Seeking any information/photos
Much appreciated

Hi Julie, Glad I could help you, good hunting.

Hi Julie, my great great grandmother was a cousin of Elna Persson.
Elna was born 25 Oct 1832 in Djuramåsa, Allerum. Her parents: Per Ebbesson b. 1798 and Elsa Jönsdotter b. 1795. She married Per Nilsson in 1861, he was b. 14 April 1827 in Raus.
Peternilla b. 10 Sep 1862, died 12 April 1872
Nils b. 6 Jan 1865
Carolina b. 26 april 1867
Eloise b. 18 June 1869
Carl Peter b. 25 July 1872
The family lived mostly in Djuramåsa, Allerum but moved in November 1870 to Kulla Gunnarstorp, Allerum.
On September 2 in 1874 they moved to New Zealand.
Elnas brother Bengt Persson b. 1831 lived in Denmark from 1854 and died there in 1875.
Elnas brother Ola Persson b. 1834 moved about working as a farmhand, I loose track of him in 1861 when he moves from Kattarp to Helsingborg. He is either not alive or doesn't live in Sweden in 1880 (register).
Elnas sister Johanna Persson b. 1838 had two children both called Peter but they died young and Johanna died unmarried in Allerum in 1916.

Kind regards,

Hi Mikael,
Oh wow, so much more info. I guess somewhere way back we are related! That is so awesome as I didn't have any of Elna's siblings names. I was really trying to dig into how it came that both Per & Elna died within 2 weeks of each other in New Zealand? ( when Eloise was only 11) I can't find any record of their deaths or grave sites in NZ at all which is a little strange.
I live in Brisbane but am originally from Palmerston North in New Zealand. My partner & I are hoping to go to Sweden next year to dig for more information , but very much to see where my ancestors came from.
Thanks so much for the details you have given - so exciting!
kindest regards

Hi Julie,
You're welcome :)! I have a lot more on Elnas mother's side, which is our mutual family, and it goes back another 5 generations to about 1650. It's a bit much to write down in this forum so I have sent you a message, here through this site, if you are interested!

Kind regards

Hi Mikael

Yes please, I am so interested in as much info as you have, my brother Greg who still lives in New Zealand is also very very keen to hear / read anything more on our family history. This is my personal email address:
I can also give you my home address if it's easier for you to send copies rather than attachments?? Just let me know what is the best option for yourself.
Can't thank you enough.

Hi Julie,

First of all I have to correct my self when it comes to Elnas husband Nils Persson. After a bit of research I found that he was actually born April 19 (not 14 as stated in some books). His were Nils Miralba b. 1798-12-19 in Allerum and Pernilla Nilsdotter

by MikaelP on 2017-08-08 15:37:53

Sorry the message was sent before I was done, don't know what happened.
Per Nilsson was born on April 19 1827 in Raus and his parents were: Nils Miralba b. 1798-12-19 in Allerum and Pernilla Nilsdotter b. 1803-12-19 in Kropp.
Nils Miralba (born Carlsson) was a "husar" in The Royal Scanian Hussar Regiment which was a cavalry, he died in 1850-12-28 in Raus.

It's easy to get things wrong jumping between the programs so I will attach transcripts from the program I use when I email you.
