My mother is the grand daughter of Amelia Tonkin(Egan). She can confirm that there were 16 children in the Penglase family. 8 Males and 8 females.

If this is the correct Sydney it appears the informant named the wrong mother when registering the birth, which happened a lot. There was an Edward PENGLASE and Mary Ann NENKIVELLE in the same area at the time so the informant may have confused the two mother's.
Sydney's mother's name at death is almost correct, but then again informants were often wrong when it came to the mother's name. Wrong names supplied by informants does make confirming events harder for us.
I spent the day searching the records and have updated a few details. Happy to be corrected if I have made any errors.
