Phillip Tapsell 1777 1822
edmondsallan - Hello , When I pushed the buttons on " Old Faithful " and ask to give me a couple of the early settlers in New Zealand , she kindly put out a list of a dozen or so . We have already turned some into " Journal Fodda " which I hope you are enjoying . The next on the list is " Phillip Tapsell ". Like I have suggested with the others, Lets take a look at this re-born " Kiwi "
" Phillip Tapsell " was an assumed name . I cannot find any official regristration in NZ even though we know he was born in " Kopenhagen " Denmark . I wonder how many of you , who know about this " Dane ",
know about his other names . He had and used seven ( 7 )other names at odd times . some longer than others . I think we have to accept , that he used " Phillip Tapsell " - 90 % of the time , he was a kiwi and living in NZ. a-a-ah !! Do I detect a sense of curiosity ? --You want to know his other Names ? !! Ok - they were as follows -
He was born in 1777 & christened " Hans Homman Jensen Falk " . He was the son of -" Jens Hansen Falk - b- 1761-m-1784- d-1832
and his wife" Maria Dorothea Esmarck " b- 1765 - m-1784 - d- 1797
His mother died when he was eight ( 8 ) years old . He spent two ( 2 )
years with his grandparents in Jutland - Denmark ,and he attended school at Koberhagen . He went to sea early 1n the very early 1800's. He served in Merchant ships . when he joined an English ship in Portsmouth Eng 'he changed his name to Phillip Tapsell ( his spelling of his name - was in his Danish language , sort of - to mean -
" Topsail " When War broke out between England & Denmark ,he said he was a Manxman to cover his accent . It is claimed that he served in the Danish Navy . In my research I could not prove that . I did manage to prove he Returned to England 1802. He sailed on Quite a few ships , including " Whalers " and he visited the Bay of islands several times in Whaling Vessels and it was in the Bay of Islands that he met his wife to be " Hine-a-Turama " Oh ~ I have forgotten to tell you his other names or did I ???? . They were
TASAIL // TAPSEL // TAPSAL // HANS TAPSELL // HANS FELK //
HANS HOMMAN JENSEN FALK // HANS JENSEN // Yes and he used all those names at different places - stages in his life . Till we meet again - regards - edmondsallan
Dear Edmondsallan
I have read you text about Tapsell and i can nsee that some of it is wrong . Some years ago i dived into the story together whit a Quintin Tapsell who was leader of a Maroi museum in NZ . We went through the hole story and corrected evrything who was told wrong . We got to 1815 and then he died . But one of the big problems is that it the wrong mother who is set on Tapsell and he was not so old as expected when he died . The fact is that he died very short time before his 83.birthday .
The book James Cowan wrote about his is not cronologisk and some of the storyies is set in wrong in time . But Quintin Tapsell wrote it down as we went through the story but i dont know wher his papers is ?
I am a man from Denmark ( Iørn Dyrholm) and i did fall over Phillip Tapsel in conection whit our work who is to find the secrets about Jorgen Jorgensen. We had a feeling that Phillip Tapsell could fit in that story and then we tjecked Tapsell and found that the stroy about him not was told as it was .
So just ask if you are interested in Phillip Tapsells life and we can use Cowans book as base . The last thing Quintin and i was into was the mascacre Tapsell was told to have bin a part of but he cant have bin that . But the journey he took whit captain Clark in 1797 is not easy to find because it cant have happend that year because Phillip was only 7 years old at that time .
Venlig Hilsen
Iørn
PS Sorry for my bad english.
hi , you may be right . you may be wrong . If you are right To alter the records you need to contact the" national library of NZ " with documented proof . as this is where my original research found the article - regards edmondsallan -IQG
