Hi, sorry for the brevity of my request. Have found some internet info, taking me back to Henery Charlton Powell from Herekino , Northland. Would like to 'fill in the personal gaps' that I'm missing in this search . There is a Crene connection ? somewhere to the Beazley tree which l would like to find more of re my father.
Dennis Powell Harry Vanston Powell , my father Ida Beazley , my grandmother
Hi Dennis, not sure how far along you are with your search but I can very likely add to where you were at when you last posted – thanks in no small part to the encyclopaedic knowledge of my mother Beryl Curreen nee Veza, family genealogist extraordinaire.
Henry Charlton Powell is great grandfather to both you and Beryl - accordingly he is my own great great grandfather. Put otherwise, you are the grandchild of Ida, and my mother Beryl is the grandchild of Ida’s sister May.
Beryl was born and raised in the very locale in which your father was born, as was her father Andy Veza (son of May) – unsurprisingly I guess as they are close family to Ida. Andy (born 1911) was first cousin and childhood friend to your father in Herekino; Ida and her siblings were Andy's aunts and uncles so of course both he and my mother knew Ida well throughout their lives – and know much about the Powell family twists and turns. Suffice to say we can relay rather a lot to you of the progression of HCP and his family, including your father Harry Vanston Powell, who you probably already know was always known in the family as Dick - nicknaming was common in HCP's family (Ida's sister May was called Tui and brother Gerald was Boydie, to name just two examples).
We can also answer on the Crene connection, which we believe descends not from Ida's direct line (and in turn not the Beazleys) but from that of her older half-sister Edith (Edie); before producing Ida and her nine siblings with Carrie Powell (nee Stephens), HCP had three children to a previous marriage to Anne Powell (nee Willis) - we can also provide more detail of how all this played out too if it's of interest.
There will almost certainly be some surprises, so perhaps off-forum is best as one must of course be mindful of just barging ahead and publicly sharing potentially personal information. Drop me a line at mcurreen@gmail.com Best regards, Marc Curren
