Query

I am researching my mother's side of the family.
Her father was Thomas Joseph JACOBS who married Annie Eliza ALDERTON and came to New Zealand in the 1900's.
Annie's father was John Jinks JACOBS (married Emma EADES b.1848)
and his father was George JACOBS. (married Mary Ann GROVES)
I have got back to George's father Joseph Jinks JACOBS who was born in 1816 in Middlesex, England.
I am curious as to the name that keeps on repeating "Jinks" It must be a surname.
Does anyone know this family or have any information regarding this unusual name?
Coincidently Joseph Jinks JACOBS also married an EADES- Mary. Often wondered if it was any relation.
