I'm going crazy atm looking for my great grandfather....but the question I have is....

His name is Albert Edward Burton.... IF, and this is a big IF, he was registered at birth as an Albert Edward Francis Burton, would this be the name he'd have to use on enlistment papers, marriage certs etc? Or would he have been able to have gotten away with just using Albert Edward Burton??

Sorry a little confusing I know...but just curious....

Quick answer. I have records to confirm this sort of thing did happen. A lot of people never used their third name for some reason. I also have records to confirm that some people used a given name that never appeared on their birth or baptism certificate. I agree, it does get confusing when searching the records. Hope this is of some help to you.
