Yes. Janet mathison james 1916-1951. We know that side of the family quite well.
Janet and Raymond were not married and the family did not approve. Janet married a Gordon cutler and my father was raised by his grandmother. He never knew his father.
Yes. I have tracked down a fair bit of RC. I even found his headstone with his wife and children's names. But RT has thrown a spanner in the works somewhat as I need to be a bit more confident of my data!
Raymond Charles was born 1914 in Otahuhu, Auckland and Raymond Trevallow was born 1916 in Tirau
Frederick Charles Johnston (1873-1922), Raymond Charles father, was born in Wellington. He married Margaret Tuohey (1880-1948) 20 April 1909 at St Josephs, Buckle street, Wellington. Margaret was born in Auckland. They both died in Otahuhu, Auckland so cannot find a connection to your Raymond Trevallow Johnston
No. They were Janet's parents. They raised my father after she married Gordon Cutler. When my father was a young boy they lived in Ariki street, Grey Lynn, Auckland
pardon - yes, I meant brought up your father ;) and his father was the elusive Mr Raymond Trevallow Johnston
Which takes us back to the Tirau cemetery and the 2 people there who have the names of Trevallow. I feek there has to be a connection somewhere because that name is so unusual
hi Kiwibloke,
what are you looking for exactly?
Hi,
I am trying to trace my paternal grandfather
is Raymond Trevallow Owen Johnston your paternal grandfather? Is that his full name?
These are the burials at Tirau
You will see that the unusual name of Trevallow/Trevellow is for 2 of the 'Bear' family members
Do you have anything else about him? wife? parents?
Hi.
Wow. Thank you.
The only information I have is from my father's birth certificate.
It's complicated :)
ok, well I found him but the spelling of his surname is Raymond Trevallow Owen Johnston.
He was born 30 July 1916 and died 12 Feb 2008 aged 91
Hoping some relatives will read this as well. They are sure to have a lot of info
what else does it say on the birth certificate?
does it have his mother's name?
Hi,
That's great. Where did you locate that from? I have been searching all day and all I found was this site!
:)
New Zealand Birth/Death/Marriages

Raymond Charles Johnston was born 3 May 1914 to Charles Frederick JOHNSTON and Margaret TUOHEY
I understood my grandfather was Raymond Charles. But I got my fathers birth cert from dia today and is says Raymond Trevallow. (!).
I plan to contact dia tomorrow to rule out human error.

Yes. It's a bit left field so i need to follow up with dia to see if there has been a clerical error.
Dora Vere McGarvie (1879-1969) married Joseph Henry James (1877-1946) in 1903. They lived in Thames
Was this the couple who brought up your grandfather, Raymond Trevallow Johnston?
No. They were Janet's parents. They raised my father after she married Gordon Cutler. When my father was a young boy they lived in Ariki street, Grey Lynn, Auckland

- born in Australia
- son of Samuel John Bear & Laura Isabel Batley
Raymond's full name on my fathers birth cert is displayed as "Raymond Trevallow Owen Johnston"
Is that not unusual in itself to have such a middle name?
