I started my research with MARY ANN MCGLYNN born in St Helens, Lancashire, England. She is my Great Grandmother.

She was born 28 October 1888 in St Helens, her mother was ELIZABETH MCGLYNN. ELIZABETH was born approx 1853 in Ireland.
I have been told she was born in Bray, nr Dublin. ELIZABETH lived in Liverpool, Lancashire before moving to St Helens. She married JOHN MCALEAVEY IN 1870, they had two children, MARY ELLEN born 1871 and JOHN born 1872, John died the same year he was born. ELIZABETH'S husband JOHN was shortly after admitted to Rainhill Asylum where he died many years later. ELIZABETH then lived with her father PATRICK MCGLYNN, her sister ELLEN and uncle MICHAEL in Liverpool before moving to St Helens. She did not marry again but did live with JOSEPH APPLETON and had four children, BETSY, MARY ANN, MARCELLA and PATRICK, they were all registered under the name MCGLYNN. She died in 1916.

ELIZABETH'S father PATRICK was born in about 1821 in Ireland. I can find him as far as the 1861 census in Liverpool living with Anne Hayden. In 1871 he is living with his daughter ELLEN and brother MICHAEL. There is no wife on any of these census returns. PATRICK died in 1880.

This is where I am stuck, I have been unable to verify ELIZABETH'S birth or PATRICK'S in Ireland so far. I have information on the family in Liverpool and St Helens but not doing very well going back to Ireland. I know this can be a problem for lots of people so I just keep searching and hoping to come up with new leads.
