Researching Daykin of Ilkeston
I am looking for information on my maternal grandfather's family (DAYKIN) in Ilkeston. He was Thos. Bailey Daykin b 1869 and I have his siblings, parents - Richard Birch Daykin b1850 and Sarah Ann Bonsall b1850, and grandparents Richard Daykin (Snr) b1808 Kirk Hallam and Ann Clemerson(various spellings) b 1809 Loughborough. Richard (Snr) was a carpenter model maker and I have all his census listings. I am hoping to trace any siblings for him and parents if possible. As Birch has been a male Christian name in the family to the present day, I am guessing that Samuel Daykin of Ilkeston and Sarah Birch who married in Kirk Hallam 1804 are possibly his parents. That could possibly be Samuel Daykin (b1784) son of Joseph Daykin b1740 Ilkeston and Catherine Meakin b1742. I have no "proof" of my last two statements though. Richard Snr. had a daughter Eliza E Daykin(b c 1830 who became Eliza E Moon and another daughter Eliabeth b c 1832 who became Elizabeth Higgit.
Any info. on the above would be much appreciated.
I have Daykins From Ilkeston ,Nottingham in my family tree
Hello. Since I wrote my bit about Richard Daykin. I have found his birth date 27.4.1807 and baptism 12.7.1807 at Wesleyan Chapel Halifax Place Nottingham. He was born Kirk Hallam Ilkeston. His parents are Samuel and Sarah Daykin (as guessed because of Sarah's maiden name Birch.) I have assumed Samuel is the son of Joseph Daykin of Ilkeston (b 1784) as this ties us in with all the other Daykins of Ilkeston which my mother told me were all related (that spelling.) Yet to be confirmed. He has one sibling to my knowledge - Elizabeth baptised March 1805 in the Wesleyan Chapel Halifax Place. As Sam'l and Sarah only married in November 1804 this would explain their possible exodus to Nott'm! There is another (or the same) Sam'l and Sarah who baptised more children at St. Mary's church Nott'm. I'll have to check the dates to see if they are possibly the same folk. Any light you can throw on the Daykins would be much appreciated.. Regards Sue Palin
