His parents were Isaac and Lydia Oakley. Many of the family were nailors by trade.

Hi Susan,
I would like to start researching the Oakley family, being my Mothers line, to add to my tree. Unfortunately I struggle finding anything! Furthest I can go is 2 gen's past Mum with Thomas Cornelius Oakley who married Dora Madeline McGrath. Their son was Willaim Oakley. Any chance there is a link between our families??
Regards,
Mark O'Donnell.
I too am trying to research this tree. My mother also had Dora and Cornelius as parents. We are doing our tree and William came up with his photo on our tree, as there are links in Ancestory.com. My mother was Bessie May Oakley and lived at 45 Princes Street Fitzroy. She moved with Dolly to Hampton in the 1950/60s. The house in Fitzroy was resumed by St Vincents . It looks as if the Oakley family had a colourful history. There seems to be masses of children and some died at birth. Are there any Oakleys living in Sydney or Melbourne who would have any background. ? Take a look at Ancestory.com and there should be a message there for you. We are not sure how William fits in. Did he manage the slipper factory?
