He was buried in Otahuhu Auckland. Reueben and Nellie Lillian lived in Auckland. Reuben and Lillian Lucy lived in Wellington. Lillian Lucy died 1948 and buried in the cemetery as her baby son Leo George.
Reuben died 1969 and Nellie Lilian Died 1980.
Did Reuben divorce Lillian Lucy and marry again 1924?

there is only one Reuben Spear registered at BDM as dying in NZ. That is 'your' Reuben in 1969. When he married Lillian his name was Reuben Joseph, the second marriage in 1924 to Nellie shows just Reuben. When he was wounded in war he was Reuben Joseph. This means little as that happened frequently, but I am just trying to establish at this time if there was indeed, only one Reuben Spear in NZ at that time.

Thank you for your reply. I did try to see if he had army records, but found nothing. I did try the papers to see if he was divorced and again nothing. I did think it would be reported in the local newspaper when someone divorced.
I did see that his son died 1 day old, Leo George. I cannot find any children with Nellie Lilian either, but that could be to do with the 100 year thing. Did he and Nellie Lilian have children?

the journal at the link I posted in comments, is being updated as we speak :) Very interesting what is being found about his father/parents and that he had a brother born in Melbourne. Do you know more on his parents etc?
The only thing that I know about Reuben Spear is he had a daughter in 1905. He was not married to the baby's mother. I hope this does not come as a shock to you.

Yes and that baby married my grandfathers brother. I am helping the granddaughter of that baby to find out who her father was. A birth cert cleared that up very quickly. But Reuben's marriages added to the mystery. I suppose we do need to know if Reuben had more children. He did have a son Leo George and he died the next day. I would be interested to know if he and Nellie Lilian had children
