Rivers Charles Elliott

My grandfather was Albert Milton Rivers of Texas. Siblings were Jefferson Davis Rivers and Atlas Rivers (among others); Albert's daughter, Georgia Ann Rivers, was my mother. Family reports Rivers were of German descent, but have nothing to confirm origins. I have family back to Charles Elliott Rivers, but wondered if Rivers was Americanized from Reifers or other derivations of the name.
