Rosina Lewis Nee Lintott

I can't find Rosina Lewis on the 1911 Census or her whereabouts thereafter. She was married to William Henry Lewis and the family seemed to have split up about 1901.

Do you have the marriage cert for Rosina and William Henry ? if so what was Williams occupation and age. Does it give both fathers names and occupations ?

Thank you very much wizard28. Yes, you have the correct couple. I do have a copy of the marriage cert for Rosina and William Henry (see end of message). William was a regular soldier and I think the children who were born away from Liss were born in army hospitals. I haven't trawled very far through the 1911 census to try and find Rosina but she may have been separated from William by then. William took the only son back to Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire on a 1901/11 census I think showing as a grandson entry. My husband's grandmother was the youngest of Rosina's children, named Ester Victoria Maud and she was born in Jan 1901 but the birth wasn't registered until later that year so she does not show up on the 1901 census. Ester does show up though in 1911 on a census for an orphanage at Westcott, Dorking. The 2 older sisters, Annie and Helen, had also been to the same orphanage and had left earlier. They were trained as launderesses and eventually found work in Stoke-on-Trent. We think that Ester may have visited them there and probably met her husband to be in SOT where she too ended up working in service. I think the daughter Rosina is on a 1911 census as living with her grandparents, Henry and Jane, in Liss. I haven't found out yet which of Rosina's brothers or sisters are the parents of Beatrice but I have seen her on a census living with Rosina I think (as above?). I don't know what happened to Jennie yet. William seems to have been in the Liss, Petersfield area for the marriage, and Aldershot/Stoneham areas for his army years and back in Pembrokeshire at all other times. It's a pity we don't have the 1921 census online yet. My husband's mother always wondered why her mother (Ester) ended up in an orphanage and why the marriage broke up and that is what started the trail to Rosina. William did go abroad in the army before and after 1900 and with 6 children to look after it may have been that Rosina at the age of 24 could not cope?? Rosina's parents, Henry and Jane, lived in Liss where there are several different lines of Lintotts so it's tricky to stay on the right track. The interesting thing about all this is that we now live about 10/15 minutes away from Liss and my husband finds himself this distance away from where his great grandmother Rosina lived having himself been born in Stoke-on-Trent. Thank you very much for all of your info. I have found a Rosina Lewis on a death list for 1947 but apart from that I don't know whether this is the correct Rosina Lewis or not. I will continue to try and find her on the 1911 census to see her circumstances then. Regards and many thanks Jools24. See following info from William and Rosina's marriage certificate -
1894 Liss Parish Church (in the county of Southampton), either 7th or 9th February.
