Searching for Ancestry of F B Cockrell

I have traced my brother-in-law's Granddad Edgar F. Cockrell b. July 1866 in Missouri back to F B Cockrell b. 1847 (not state) and hit a wall. All I can find is his birth year and his spouse Emma Fischer b 1846 in Kentucky. Can anyone help?
