Searching for information about Duncan MacArthur or McArthur

Journal by padiba

From Bible records, I have a Duncan McArthur or MacArthur born 1 May 1745 in either upstate New York or Vermont. He married Mary Savage relative of John Savage, a known Loyalist. I've read accounts of Duncan and Mary accompanying John to Shefford,Quebec as refugees after the Revolutionary War. Some accounts list a Mary McArty widow of Duncan residing in Shefford.. I can't find anything about him, his parents name, siblings or country of origin (which I presume is Scotland)or any definitive death or burial information. I do know Mary and Duncan had at least one daughter, Elizabeth MacArthur/McArthur who married David Whalen. Their daughter, born between 1802 and 1810 married and moved from Vermont to Livingston County, Michigan.

Duncan MacArthur died September 10, 1827 in Shefford Township, Shefford County, Quebec, and his wife Mary Savage MacArthur died March 30 1829 in the same place. I am descended from their daughter Anna "Nancy" MacArthur who married Joseph/John Fitchett.

I have Duncan's parents as Neil MacArthur and Mary Campbell, but I have no documentation of this. I believe Duncan was born in New York state.

I would love to exchange information. You can email me at esweet4204@hotmail.com
