Searching for My Gatens Gattens Gattens Ancestors IN Ireland Before 1850

My Gatens ancestors came to Scotland on or around 1851. I am researching a James GATENS/GATTENS who married Marjorie MCAULY in Port-Glasgow Scotland in 1852. Marjory came from Rathlin, Antrim, Ireland. I also think that James was Irish but have no information as to where he came from. His death certificate (he died in Scotland) gives his parents names as Francis GATTENS/GATENS and catherine Travers.
