Slaughter and Wilson Family

I am looking for any Slaughter families from Lafayette IN. I need your help. My GGM Maude VanMeter Ward b March 13 1883 has two marriage records (info on computer not original records) Jan 1901 She was Maude VanMeter & married (no name on the record) then in 1904 she is Maude Slaughter & married my GGF John P Ward. the story goes that my GM (her daughter Helen Maud Ward), took the name of Slaughter for a while in her single days, but never explained why to her daughter (my mom)Now my mother is passed and I will never know what that was all about. The Ward's,& VanMeter's lived in Tippicanue Lafayette IN
