Stewart John Pierson Australia

My sons GG Grandfather was Stewart John Pierson married Elizabeth Helen Kerr 1904 in Melbourne.He had a long Army history 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen to name one. Here is were it gets tricky Mothers name on Attestation papers Mrs E Hansen who we have been told was Sophia Elizabeth Hansen. His Death certificate says mother unknown father Stewart John Pearson. We have found Rockhampton Orphanage records for Stewart Julius Pierson born 1877 admitted 13 August 1882 which we suspect might be him. How would we find out more information I seem to be going around in circles Thanks Lynette
