The schooner John Bull left Auckland on the 15th March for the coast, to take in a cargo of timber for Sydney.
The Elora sighted an American whaler on her passage up, but did not ascertain her name.
The barque British Sovereign hence via Boyd Town, had arrived at Auckland, after a tedious passage of thirty-six days, during which she lost some of the cattle. She sailed thence for the South Sea Islands the same day as the Elora.
The Maukin experienced very severe weather with contrary winds, off the North Cape, and was obliged to put into the Bay of Islands for shelter during the easterly gales. Captain Cooney spoke, on the 9th instant, near the Three Kings, the Sydney whaling barque Lindsays, five months out, with 550 barrels sperm, bound to Monganui. The Lindsays reported having spoken the Tigress, brig, at sea, with 750 barrels. - New Zealander, March 20.
The American whale ship United States, of Nantucket, 322 tons, Captain Worth, arrived in port on Wednesday, from the South Seas. She has been out fifteen months; has captured 280 barrels black, and 120 barrels sperm oil. She spoke the ship Superior, Captain Hart, from Port Nicholson, about a week back. About nine months since she put into the Bay of Islands, and has since been in to Akaroa. - Wellington Independent, March 3
