Thankyou.
I did a random letter Postage yesterday got on to the white Pages looked up Taaffe and sent off letter requesting some help from different Taaffe's around Australia.
There is a fair bit of info on the Taafe surname in various diectories and Census/voter lists are you looking for any first names in particular or a certain State?
My Great Grandfather was Patrick Joseph Taaffe aged 28,he Married Mary Elizabeth McMahon aged 17 in Kalgoorlie 7th Febuary 1899. I purchased their Marriage cerificate to get their parents name.Patrick's father was also a Patrick his mother was Mary Carpenter. Mary's father was John James and mother was Ellan Ryan.
Patrick was in Coolgardie the same time as Paddy Hannan, Dan Shea & Tom Flanagan. Patrick was the president of the AWU for many years he was also a executive member of the ALP a Senior Councillor and a Deputy Major and a number of other accolaids to his honor. I dont seem to be able to get beyond this point without outlaying quantities of money which I dont have That is why I have requested information from my extended Family/ies hoping that they might be able to contribute to this in some small or large way. Im only too happy to put it all together and pass all the collected information on to any person/s who require it.
There is a section on a letter written to Auntie Rose form a Bob Taaffe that lived at 11 Derribong Place, Thornleigh NSW dated 20 Dc 1986 that reads "remember wa are all taaffe's or descended from Taaffe and it is our history. If we work together we will get the job done alot faster and with more detail so that we and our decendents will know a lot more about our/their forbearers." It also reads "This is a labour of love in that we wish to know about our ancestors and relationship between the family groups and share this with all other Taaffe's. DONT expect the BOMB to drop. WE are not soliciting money and dont expect to." So im trying to follow in Bobs footsteps even though I have never met this person or spoken to him.I will try and continue with what Rose had started.
Noey,
You are probably aware the the Western Australia PO Directories are available om line at http://www.slwa.wa.gov.au/find/guides/wa_history/post_office_directories
These records might give you more information on Patrick Joseph Taaffe and others.

The only problem i can see with that is the dates dont go back far enough but I will did around and see what information i can find. i do alot of digging and get nowhere. But I do learn quite abit obount other things. It is quite scarey sometimes what you dig up and yet on other occations its like opening a treasure chest. This has sucked me in I haven't even looked for some time now and was feeling quite guilty because i had felt that i had abandend it. Not knowing where to look and search for free information is quite a challenge on its own. I do appreciate your help and information.
Thankyou so much you have given me a new spirt of enthusiasm.

Noelene,
The State Library of Western Australia has an "Ask us" service which I have found very helpful for my research.

Hi Noelene, My maiden name was Taaffe. I am a descendant of Patrick Joseph Taaffe and Mary Carpenter. somewhere in my mess of paperwork I have much information which will be of benefit to you. Will look all this out ASAP.
Hi,
The 1895 Queensland State Electoral Roll in THE ELECTORAL DISTRICT OF WOOTHAKATA has John Taafe 37 years residing at Tate River and his occupation was a miner. John had qualified to be on this roll on 26th Nov 1892.
Tate River was a gold field about 150 km wsw of Cairns.
Regards
Gerry
Two things:
John Taafe is listed as an insolvent miner in 1897 (see Morning Bulletin [Rockhampton] Thurs 2 Sept 1897, p.5
John Taafe, miner of Woodlark Island, was granted probate after the death of his wife, Lillian Ann Taafe (see Townsville Daily Bulletin, Thurs 18 July 1907)
Also, John Taafe, apparently worked initially as a miner and then some kind of para-professional medico on Woodlark Island. He gets a mention in an Australian Medical journal as a kind of 'expert' on treating tropical diseases. I can't recall the reference to this one - sorry.
Thought it may have been a John Taafe in my ancestry but different line, I think.
Richard Taffe
