edmondsallan - Hello - " Wiremu " was born 7th Dec 1862 at Kareponia.
He was baptised into the Anglican church -8th Feb 1863. His father was " Hoani ( Hone ) Taua chief of the " Te Patukoraha " His mother was " Ngahuka Makinihi Kere "
" Wiremu Hone Taua " married " Kane Larkins ( Rakena ) daughter of
" Rakena Wi " of Kaitaia on the 24th Dec 1883
He became a school teacher of some merit .
" Taua " had tribal links with - Ngati Kahu // Te Patukoraha // and Te Rarawa-. The Taua family had been associated with the - " Karepona // Peria // & Whatuwhiwhi areas of Mangonui in Northland , through out the 19th century . His Grand father - " Te Wheinga Taua " signed the treaty of Waitangi .
" Wiremu Taua " served on the Peria Native School committee , staffed by european teachers . He was the mainperson in a group, who got the original native school built at " Whatuwhiwhi " .
Although being a very well mannered , quiteish sort of a person , Physically quite tall , He was strong in his beliefs to assist his maori race at every opportunity. Many articles have been written about this Person and I think many more will be . He certainly was a dynamic maori Leader of his People - Till we meet again - Regards -edmondsallan
