NORSEWOOD is situated east of the Ruahine Mountain range and is located 20 kilometres northeast of Dannevirke. Norsewood was founded by Scandinavian settlers in 1872 as a loggers settlement

Norsewood-Te Whiti settlement (the correct name is Te Whiti-atara) was bought from the Maori by the Government, surveyed into sections and balloted for, on the 19th June 1912

There were 395 applications, the sections ranging from 64 acres to 100 acres.
