Thamerus Family
The group I am seeking lived in Münsterappel, in Bavaria, Germany, in the 1813-1870 period. Maria Catherine Thamerus came to the US and settled in New York City, but (family legend says) she had brothers who settled in Kentucky and Pennsylvania. Her father was Michael Thamerus and her mother Elizabeth Fleischer; siblings were Jacobina, Johann Friedrich, Charlotta, Elisabetha, and Michael. One story an aunt told me claims that her father was a wine exporter, and she and her brothers sailed to the US on a ship that ran aground on the coast of Africa during a storm encountered en route.
I believe that my great great grandfather is the Michael Thamerus brother of Maria Catherine Thamerus. If the records I searched correctly, he had 2 daughters, Luise and Elise. Luise lived in Mackenbach, Pfalz
What evidence do you have for this? I have the record from Muensterappel of Michael's birth, but nothing from after that date.

My great grandmother was Marie Cathrine Thammerus, born 1837 and baptized July 23, 1837 in Muensterappel. Her father was Michael (Johann Michael Thammerus, 1795- 1873) and her mother was Elisabetha Fleischer (1813-1853). Her father had two wives before Elisabetha: Cathrina Paul (b. 1793), with whom he had 3 chrildren, Anna Christina (*b. 1818), Johann Friedrich (1820-1880), and Carl (1891 - before 1893. He married her on 29 Mar 1821 in Obermoschel, Pfalz, Bavaria. after her death (I assume, because I've not found the record), he married Margaretha Christmann on 13 Aug 1824 in Hochstaetten, Bayern. And he married Elisabetha Fleischer on 12 Jul 1832 (I know not where). My great-grandmother's siblings were Jacobina (b. 1831), Johann Friedrich (1832-1833), Charlotta (1834-1852), Elisabetha Thamerus (1840-1884), and Michael (b. 1845). When she came to the US I have not been able to identify: two different records say 1861 and 1867. She married F. W. Edwin Brokowski on 18 Sep 1870 in New York City, and they had five children, the 3rd of whom was my grandmother, Catherine Marie Brokowski. The family changed their name to Brokow in 1895.
Family stories/legends claim Catherine Thamerus (it's spelled various ways, including Demaris and Tremarest) had two brothers in the family wine exporting business who settled in Pennsylvania and Kentucky. I have had no luck in tracing them (if they are actual), although I have (I think) traced the Thamerus line back to the 1500's.
Any additional light anyone can shed on this family will be much appreciated. Email me at sspangehl@gmail.com and I'll be happy to share more with you.
