... Mr Albert Wharfe, who passed away recently at Pururu Avenue, Green Lane, (Auckland) was the eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs Thomas Wharfe, of North Albertland. He was the first white boy born at Port Albert, his parents and grandparents having arrived by the Matilda Wattenbach with the pioneer settlers. He went to Coromandel, twenty five years ago, and there carried on his business as builder and contractor also as mill-owner and timber merchant with his brother Mr William Henry Wharfe, at Whangapoua. Two years ago he moved with his wife and family to Auckland, whre, with his sons he continued his business till a week before his death, caused by an attack of rheumatics which developed into rheumatic fever. He leaves a wife and family of sons and daughters to mourn their loss. mr Wharfe was highly respected by all who knew him
