SEARANCKE-BOVEY
On Wednesday last a very pretty wedding took place at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Te Nui, when Miss Lucy Elizabeth Bovey, second daughter of Mr Wm. Bovey of Rock View, was married to Mr Henry John Searancke, of the Upper Hutt, but who has resided in this district for several years past. The bride, who was dressed in a white silk gown, trimmed with insertion, with hat to match, entered the church on the arm of her father (who gave her away) during the singing of the hymn "The voice that breathed o'er Eden." The bridesmaids were Miss Fanny Searancke, sister of the bridegroom and Misses Lizzie and Dinah Bovey. Miss Searancke wore a very pretty dress of crinoline, trimmed with satin ribbons. The Misses Bovey were suitably attired in white muslin. The bride and her maids carried pretty bouquets of white flowers. Mr Searancke was supported by Mr Oscar Bovey as best man. The ceremony was performed by the Rev J. H. Sykes, vicar of the parish, After the ceremony in the church, an adjournment was made to the Public Hall, which had been decorated for the occasion, where an excellent breakfast was partaken of by a large number of guests. The table was laid by Mr Percy PengellY, of the Te Nui Hotel and reflects great credit on his ability as a caterer. Mr Pengelly has had considerable experience and his catering on this and the previous occasion four weeks ago, when the sister of the bride (Mrs A. Hibbel) was married, is worthy of the highest commendation. The health of the bride and bridegroom was proposed by the Rev J. H. Sykes and was honoured with great enthusiasm. Several photographs were taken as mementos of such a happy occasion. Both bride and bridegroom were the recipients of a large number of pretty and useful presents.
In the evening a dance was given in the Town Hall in honour of the occasion. Excellent music was supplied by Messrs Pengelly, Brown, Hill and O'Kane. Among the guests, besides those already mentioned, were Mr and Mrs Armer, Mr and Mrs Hill, Mr and Mrs Churchouse, Mr and Mrs Birkett, Mr and Mrs Munroe, Mr and Mrs Dickens, Mrs Perry (sister of the bridegroom), Mrs Chapman, Mrs Crysall, Mr H. Bellis, etc. The church was tastefully decorated with flowers, the work of Miss Brading. Miss Pengelly presided at the organ and played the Wedding March.

Family stories that Francis Charsley Searancke deserted Mary Jane, & their 7 children, and went off with a Mrs Richard Barton. There is no verification of this at this time (although he certainly left the family) and there was a Barton Estate in Trentham at the time they lived there. Frank apparently died 10 Dec 1888 aged 49 but this has not been verified either - no sources were given, no burial details. People often throw random dates around without proof. If he did die on this date it is not recorded anywhere in NZ under the name Searancke

a message from Beverley on 8 Feb 2011:
.. Mary Jane was my great grandmother. I understand that Francis deserted Mary Jane and their 7 children and went off with a Mrs Richard Barton. I have no proof of this. My relatives told me that Mary Jane later married Thomas Eliab (Elias) Jones and had three more children - one of whom was my grandmother, Sarah Jones. No-one knows who Thomas Jones was and have never found a marriage or death certificate..
* can you please help Beverley

Mary Jane is my 2x Gt Grandmother via Ellen Jane. I have never been able to track any thing about Francis he seems to have disappeared into thin air.
