The New Zealand HARLINS

I started my family research back in 2000 (or perhaps even earlier) and now as I reach my twilight years I need to get serious about it if I want to pass on all the knowledge and interesting stories I am coming across. I am only fourth generation of the HARLIN family in New Zealand of which we are the only ones.
It all began with my great Grandfather WILLIAM HARLIN who arrived here on the "Java" as an enlisted soldier in the 65th Regiment (2516) at Auckland on
27th November 1846, and herein lies my problem. According to (1, NZ Registrar General 2, Muster rolls ) he was born in Edenderry - Kings County Ireland, and enlisted in the army on 28th December 1845 in Manchester aged 18 years. Beyond this I have nothing about his parents or ancestors.
I do have most of his life story here in NZ which being a fun-loving Irishman makes for interesting reading, and who would have thought I would find out that I had an extended family.

I'm also researching the Harlin family.
Jane Harlin 1828 Ireland - 1906 Auckland, NZ)is my 2 x great grandmother.
Her father was William Harlin abt 1815 Ireland to 1876 either NZ or Aus.
I belive Jane had a brother William. The only marriage I can find for William is to Ann Hicton in 1857. Registration number 1857/1451.
I'm not sure if this is the same William that lived in Taranaki but that seems to be the only one who has records in NZ.
Jane Harlin married John Tierney in 1848 NSW, Aus and then moved to New Zealand after their first 4 children were born.
Can you help at all with this family?

I am so excited to hear from you. YES William and Anne were my great great grandparents. They had a son called William who died at 6 weeks old and I have found another mention of a William for them as well. Not sure if they had another child and named him William as well. We have a Jane Harlin as well.
