SALE of CARTERTON NORTH on 29th November 1878:

... "The competition for the sections in the township of Carterton North yesterday offered by auction by Messrs T. Kennedy Macdonald and Co., was very keen and high prices were realised.
About 60 lots were disposed of at an average price of £33 each (equal to $4662 in 2010) the total amount realised being £2004 (283,000)

The principal purchasers were Messrs:

We are informed that the balance of the sections will be sold at Carterton in about a fortnight's time" ...
