edmondsallan- good morning all . I thought we could continue this morning with more of my research into the " Hansen " Family . As this family , among others,. played a major settlement roll in Northland nz.
Their is also another part of this same " Hansen " family , when we go further back into Denmark Ancestry , that settled in " Tonga " & married into the Tongan race of people. This is the connection to early original peoples in the Bay of Islands & is very important ,generally , unknown . This is the Pacific Island connection to the Bay of Island Maori tribes, " Hansens " Bay of Islands , and the " Hansens " of " Haderslev , Denmark . All three ( 3 ) are linked
( ** > Small world isn't it < ** ) Here is one of the 3 parts of that link . From Denmark first ;

Hans Hansen -b-1802- m 1827 - Catharina Maria Petersen ( Denmark
Thomas Hansen -b-1828- m 1855 - Anna Dorthea Peterson ( Haderslav Denmark
Hans Jorgen Hansen-b-1861-m- 1894-Kalesita Fifta Palekaua ( Vavau
Tonga
Thomas Hansen -b-12th Dec 1897 at Vavau Tonga Pacific -m- 3rd Jan 1930 - d- 7th Jan 1980 - Auckland NZ
To Mele Talaumote Emoa Luani - b-13th June 1905 -Nukualofa Tonga .
m-3rd Jan 1930 - d- 11th Nov 1941 - Tonga .
This link is related to the " Captain Hansen " who _m- " Hannah Coates"
Who sailed the Brig " Active " arriving in the Bay of Islands , as explained in the previous Journal . I have greater detail on this link in regards to Marriages , Deaths , Births-- which to save space I did not print in this Journal Ok - till we meet again - regards edmondsallan

my great great grandfather's name was Frederick Verne Hansen who married Lena Harriet Lyden (possibly married in vava'u,tonga est. 1885). From the stories I hear from my uncles, Frederick had 2 sons Verne Henry Hansen (b. march 18, 1886) and Adolph Frederick Hansen (b. may 20, 1887) and a daughter Emeline Hansen (my great grandmother). I believe all of Fredrick Verne's children were born in Tuanuku, Vava'u. Both of his sons were beleived to attend school/college in NZ. It is also believed that one of his sons (i am not sure which) was en route to Ireland (to attend a Catholic school to become a priest) but jumped ships to travel with a trader ship. I have no clue how to start a family search. Can you advise/help me? Sincerest thanks, Maralyn Sekona.

Hans Jorgen Hansen of Tonga was a German, not a Dane, according to his answer to the British consul in 1916, although he had been born in Sleswig, which I realise is on the border and has been both German and Danish at different times. The Consul was collecting the names of enemy aliens in Tonga
In May 1916 Hans was 54 years old, therefore born about 1862, married to Mrs Hans Jorgen Hansen, native woman, and had 3 children- Anna Vanila Hansen, age 20, married to Sione Moa, a Tongan; Thomas Hansen aged 18, both born in Vava'u, Tonga, and a baby Rosie Luisa Hansen aged 2 1/4. Rosie may have been from a second wife.

Frederick or Jack Heimbrod Werner Hansen was a Dane, born in 1856, who married Lena Lyden in Vava'u in 1884. He is not included in the ene my aliens list. He may have died prior to 1916, or it may be because he claimed to be Danish and Danes were not enemies.

I do not know whether Hans and Frederick/Jack were connected. It would certainly be possible.

That's very interesting as I am the great grand daughter of Hans and Kalesita Hansen, I've grown up thinking we were Danish not German. So glad to have seen the above post, now my journey will begin.

My name is Raewyn Rose Hansen Cocker, Hans Jorgen Hansen is my grandfather, he is not a German but a Dane, part of Denmark was occupied br Germany at various times but the family are Danes. Rosie is the eldest daughter of Hans Jorgan Hansen second marriage to Janie (Seini) Fakaongo Mapili Vai, my grandmother . As far as I know there is no blood connection between the two HANSEN but they would have been good friends as with all of the foreigner in Tonga. Very interesting as we research into our heritage one never know where it could lead to.
