edmondsallan - hi everybody - " lets Hit the Keys " click ! click ! & we have hoisted sail & under way . In my research folder , I see I have a note on our " Mr Thomas Kendall " ---- let me read it for a second .( Its on the old computer - " old faithful " Its a headline on this Early Settler- Not only was he an " Official appointed Magistrate " It says he was also = " schoolmaster - Lapsed Missionary - Recorder / translator of the Maori Language - Arms Dealer - and considered himself to be a _ *** WAIT FOR IT !!! *** a
" Pakeha Maori " . This is a very big statement - All those Headlines .
Ok fellow readers , it is time to shake hell out of this notation, and see what falls out !!!- ( ** > excuse me a while - I have to research this notation--------------- ????????????????? ---- Yes - Got it / what 's it say ? . He was using Hone hika to convert the maoris - willingly or by force , to become Christians . The reward to Hone Hika was more muskets . Kendall also was selling all types of arms in general to many others & making Handsome Profits which he was pocketing
( ** I'm starting to like this crooked official < what about you dear reader ** ) Just Think of it -" Won't go to church , put something in the plate ? Bang !!! " Wow !. Here is another cunning , bit.
"Kendall " wrote a letter to the CMS in London ,dated 27th Sept 1821, signed by his parishioners , surporting The " Gun selling Trade " especially to Hone Hika who safe guarded them & their Settlment. " Well, well , well .this fella had the powers of persuasion also . Shortly after this he decided to have an affair with " Tungaroa, " one of his school pupils. who worked as a servant in his house . She was the daughter of a Rakau ,prominent Maori Tohunga . The excuse he gave was- " to learn more about the maori Language , to be more accurate with his writings and translations " The affair lasted over a year , when the young girl got Pregnant . He then decide to leave her and take up the maori spiritulism and beliefs which saw him change from a chhristian to a heathen in his beliefs . In 1825 , he went back to his wife & family of ( 9 ) children . The CMS forgave him , and he and his family were sent to Valparaiso - Chile . This position did not last long and he and his family returned to NSW , Australia , where he bought 1,280 acres of farm land at " Narrawallee Creek " His son later on also bought the neighbouring farm later . " Thomas Kendall " now quite a wealthy person , also bought the cutter " Brisbane " Thomas Kendall died on board his ship " Brisbane " in 1832, while travelling to Britian to sell his own farm produce , which sank in a storm just off the Sydney Heads. all on board were lost . His children were as follows -
Suzannah - 1804 - 1881 / Elizabeth Jane - 1805 - 1870 / Thomas Surfleet - 1807 - 1883 / Basil _ 1809 - 1852 / joseph - 1811 - 1865
John -1813 -- 1813 / Samuel -1816- 1827 / John -1818- 1895 / Lawrence
- 1819 - 1881 / Edward -1822-- 1902 .

I hope you found this journal which covered a bit of old history on
" how Northand / Bay of Islands was made " and how A good egg turned rotten and then came good again . Certainly made his monies Quickly , about 5 years . I liked the note on Converting souls from Heathen ? to Christian at the end of a gun .Its no wonder my
" ancestral homeland " became so converted so quickly to the Pakeha religion & ways . His way of learning more accurately the Maori language , I am not to sure about .what do you think ? .Their is more on this early settler' , more on his relationship with Hone Hika . I think we have the wood on this fella and the rest is simular . Ok ,time to lower the sails and just rock with the tide a while . Till we meet again - Regards -edmondsallan
