Mr A. W. Hunter, 82, An old colonist,
died at Inkerman road, St Kilda. He
arrived in Port Phillip Bay in 1853. Mr
Hunter was one of the founders of the
General Laborers' Union of Australia,
now the Australian Workers' Union.
Alexander Woodford Hunter arrived in Port Phillip in the vessel 'Time and Truth' on the 4 January 1853 and arrived at the Creswick Creek diggings on the 1 February that year so he wasn't wasting any time. He was associated with the mining industry in that district, at one stage president of the Amalgamated Miners Association.

HUNTER.— On the 1st August, at his daughter's
residence, Mrs. A. J. Morris, 427 Inkerman road,
East St. Kilda, Alexander W., the beloved hus-
band of the late Elizabeth J. Hunter, late of
Creswick, loving father Mrs. W. T. Longley,
Mrs. R. Thomas, Gippsland, also Richard, Frank,
Wilfred, aged 82 years. (Interred privately,
Brighton Cemetery, August 2, 1915).
