I am so pleased to read this information about Thomas Samuel Spearing.
Alfred Spearing born 1901 was my husband's father. He died in September 1949, and the only information he had was that he arrived in Australia in 1932 on the day the Sydney Harbour Bridge was opened.
Returning to England he brought his sister Emily,a widow with three children to Australia.
Alfred married Leila Mary Collin(b1915).My husband was thirteen when his father died in an accident.
Thank you very much Janilye
I thought you'd be surprised. If you want anything back further just say. Jan
Here I go again! Now I am trying to see if there is a connecton to James Stares Spearing and Thomas Samuel Spearing. James Stares Spearing came to Australia in 1925
on the ship"Harvey"he was then about 47 years old. He was given a land grant on Mt Keira which he named Paulsgrove.
I know Janes married Harriet Overington in Australia in 1927. His mothers maiden name was Elizabeth Stares. I think his fathers name may have been James also.
I know George Spearing and Tabitha Harris Thomas's parents had 3 other childrn as well as Thomas, so thought there may be a connection there.

Thank you so much janilye. The reason I am trying to find a connection between James Stares Spearing and the Spearings descended from George Spearing and Tabitha Harris is that a family member on my fathers side has found a direct ancestor William Whitehill who came to Australia as a convict and went to work for James Stares Spearing.

Whitehall was from Dublin.
He was tried in Louth 1825 for stealing cows and got a life sentence. He came out here with Irish Convicts (130 male convicts) on the REGALIA in 1826. He was married with 3 children and listed himself as a cotton weaver. I don't know what happened to him after his arrival. Spearing could have employed him; even though he wasn't too keen on the Irish; he at one time had 95 convicts working for him. You might find traces of the Whitehall's around Campsie.
Sorry, I'm out, and can't help you any further today.
Thank you so much janilye.
That all matches what my distant cousin has so far on Whitehall. I think it is going to be a challenge to connect George Spearing 1835 or Thomas 1860 to James Stares Spearing born around 1778. There are a lot more Spearings in the UK than I thought there would be.
