Tobeck Clarence John Colyton

I am Rachael Tobeck. Born Rae Mary Michelle Tobeck on 6th Dec. 1949. Sister of Cherie Christine bn. 19th Nov. 1947 - Daughter of Claude Spencer Tobeck - bn. 2nd Sept. 1919 & Valda Esslemont Lipscombe bn 7th Nov. 1920. Claude was the youngest son of 2 (the elder being Clarence Ralph) - of Clarence John Colyton born c. 1890s. I believe him to be the eldest son of Johann (twin of Freidrich) bn.1872 - offspring of Johann Albert and mother Lucy (nee)Sherry. These being the first Tobecks to arrive in New Zealand (Chch)out of England. Johann Albert was born in Martfield, Hanover, Germany. It appears that all Tobecks origins were there. Lucy Sherry appears to have been born in East London, England. I have found no further back records of her beyond her birth year of 1842 Bethnal Green, London and no records of her parents.

There is not much written about my grandfather Clarence John Colyton m. Ivy Pearl Edwards - my paternal grandparents - and I would love to know much more.

My grandfather was a seemingly quiet man and I think perhaps quite sad. I think he was the eldest of around 7 children - a number of them did not survive (either still-born or died at an early age).
