Tracing Descendants of Irish Ancestors IN Ireland I Am 4th Generation Australian and Would Like to Connect with Living Descendants of Siblings of My...
Hi Scott Names are Gorman, Sanders, Martin, Fraser. Some place names are County Cavan, Donaghmore, Aughnocloy, County Galway. I am still trying to uncover places of ancestral residences, but I think all originated Northern Ireland - of course I could be wrong! Thank you for any assistance. Cheers Jill
Hello lollyrock, my query wasn't asking who may be related to me but how I go about finding descendants now living in Ireland. I would have placed a notice in a newspaper but seems this doesn't happen in Ireland;I wld likely have to pay for an ad. It would also seem putting my query on such a site as here is not having the desired outcome. I did open a Facebook page and sent lots of messages off to people but then Facebook shut me down - I think they may have thought I was harrassing people! Regards, Jill
Uhmm, apologies if I came across as brusque and dismissive. It's just that I can't assist with those actual names! I thought that your idea of creating a FB page might have been a good way to find connections; sorry to hear you got shut down. Have you tried on the FB site Genealogy My Ancestors Came to Australia? Of course, you will be meaning to find out who the living "cousins" would be.. but still in Ireland as well as any Aussie ones. And as you no doubt know, most Genealogy sites with Family Trees, keep the living people "private". Frustrating! I truly don't know how you would go about it ... just trace back to the common ancestor, find all the siblings, and then down the generations to now time, and try and make contact. A lot of hard slog! Hope you get some joy. Regards, Lollyrock
Many years ago, I used to use a site called Genealogy/Genforum - and got such a lot of response, and information from that! I'm not sure that it is still up and operating though, and I haven't needed to go there to find out.
