William Whittingham 1825-1864. Immigration would have been between 1851 and 1857. I say this because he appears on the 1851 census in Durham, England and marries Mary Kearns 1828-1906 in Adelaide in 1857. Being the gold rush years;this is a huge task, thousands of ships arrived - just to Port Adelaide, and not all were registered immigrants. Try looking in HERE As he married in Adelaide and died in Edenhope which is only 30Ks from SA I think it's a safe bet to assume he arrived in SA (hopefully)
Thank you so much..I have info re his death in Edenhope and Mary's subsequent remarriage, so now you've filled in another gap for me.I m related to William & Mary both maternally and paternally ( sisters Elizabeth & Sarah married both my gggrandfathers !) What is your connection ? thanks again.. Beth
I was just going through that Edenhope site. Your Whittinghams must have been amongst the first settlers in the town. Only 120 people there in 1864. They may have something in their records. If William Whittingham bought land there in 1857. Could be some information on the sale certificate.
