the WEST COAST Region of New Zealand is one of the more remote and most sparsely populated areas of the country. It includes three districts: Buller, Grey and Westland. The principal towns are Westport, Greymouth and Hokitika. In the early years of settlement in Westland, gold was a major commodity, causing prospectors to flock into the area.

George, Alethea and their two daughters, Ellen Violet & Jessie Victoria, appear to have been the only Lamacroft family in NZ. George died in Rimu in August 1891 aged 44

Gerald Perotti (possibly snr) was the Italian Consul in Greymouth.
In Feb 1890 Gerald Perotti was the manager of the Minerva Gold-Mining Company Ltd., the office of which was at his residence in Tainui street, Greymouth. In Feb 1891 his application for a special site at Smoke O Creek, Upper Blackball was granted. He was still in Blackball in 1894. In Feb 1911 he surrendered his prospecting license in Reefton and obtained a sawmill license. His old (unoccupied) boardinghouse at Dunollie was burned to the ground in Dec 1917 in a fire that raged out of control in the township for some days
