I think it rather depends on who is writing the journal.
Some people write in the hope of gaining information or making connections to expand their family tree, but some members seem to be focused on gaining points.
For me writing for myself is a pleasure and writing for other people is rewarding.
In the end writing journals about family is about wanting to gain and to share knowledge.
And stuff the points, I've deleted more journals than I've written. Of course if there was a powder blue Jag on the line I reckon I could knock up several thousand in a week.

Oh look, you made me laugh again!! (Not SO easy before breakfast.) :o)
But seriously, when I write for other people, (which I DO find rewarding - that is why I do it,)I do it by replying to enquiries, which doesn't seem to gain me any points.
I have 177 journals in here at the moment and only 183 points so what we really need is someone to do the maths.
Just tell us about you family scubamoi or about the problems you may be having trying to research them. You are bound to get some reply. By the way, welcome to Family Tree Circles.
See what's happened here with just this simple journal you've posted!
Write about a visit to your grandparents or other relatives. A summer vacation, describe to us your first early child adventures. Do you remember the first time you were taken or went to the movies? Escape into the past. Write about memories. Just start writing. Don't feel like you may be judged. Enjoy yourself.

Basically you do what ever pleases you.

I was sent a greetings card last week - in 1951 coffee cost nearly 4 times more than one pound of beef steak in the UK.
That was a bit of a shock to me - and I guess any memories from the past are going to stir up some sort of emotion or recollection for most people.
To janilye:
I don't know anything about the O'Came family. Where have you found your information?
I found it here on your previous journal Howland - O'Came
I was going to make a comment - but I'm very busy reading all the 'Clayton Journals' - and I will have to do it another time.
