The name is clearly from a place and we have two candidates in the Uk.

Carrington in Cheshire near Pudsey. 0n the river Mersey. The ton bit is for homestead or settlement the Carr element has not been explained. Could be a personal name - or "Carric" rock but local geology does not make this likely.

Carrington or Corrington near Lincon Here we do have an old personal name as first element Kori or Corbie.

Outside possibility is it is Charrington with the h getting lost. This name derives from several places called Cherrington.
