William Burton Born 1836 London

My GG Grandfather William Burton was born in 1836 at London son of Thomas Burton and Ann nee Risby he came to Australia and married my GG Grandmother Eliza Rogers daughter of John and Ann Rogers nee Wright. William and and Ann had 5 children prior to their marriage. There is a rumour that William Burton fought in the Crimean War and jumped ship and stayed in Australia. Would anyone know how I would find out information on The Crimean War and deserters. Thanks Lynette
