Journal by butterworth

William Butterworth a mining engineer left Oldham Lancashire in 1840's with his son George travelling to New Jersey in search of, and apparently establishing employment.
His son John (Born about 1831) followed in 1855.
Then his younger son Edward (born about 1837) also followed in 1858.
John moved to Guelph Ontario working as a farm laborer in abt 1856.
Edward, a surveyor, followed in 1859
Both worked their summers in Guelph area and at same time securing property in the Duck Lake area of Ontario.
Edward, married twice, sired 3 children by his first marriage and 7 children by his second marriage.
My grandfather Charles (1878) was from his second marriage
Charles sired 8 children, one of which was my father James Edmund (1918-1990)
He worked and lived in Cannington Ontario untl his death in 1990.
I have two sons Robert James (1970) and Andrew Ferguson (1974)
I am interested to locate earlier forefathers (preceding William) as well as more details on George and Johns later family tree.
Rae Flemings book Eldon Connections has been the root of my information and the seed to create my interest.

Have you seen this website? http://www.butterworths-int.co.uk/ Apparently every Butterworth in the world can be traced back to a small village between Oldham and Rochdale, now called Newhey. I was at an old burial site in Ogden and there were do many Butterworths there.

From "My Chesney Roots"..William Butterworths wife was Ann Whitehead...but no more info to track William and George in New Jersey....I remember when on Conference in the USA in the late 90's a lady came and talked to me said she was a Butterworth from New Jersey...( her maiden name) and we were probably distant cousins...she now lives in Texas and I cannot remember her married Name...Bob your Great Uncle Ed fromSt Thomas had information on relatives in England...Darlene tried to obatin from their daughter ( now deceased) and even tried their daughter....but no luck due to lack of interest....Good Luck on your search...
