William Garrard of England to New Zealand
Comments
Dear Kerrie, A lookup of the 1841 Census for Essex revealed the following:-
William GARED born 1836 with parents Samuel and Hannah in West Mersea.
William GARRETT born 1836 Ramsey
William GARROD born 1837 Ramsey
One of these could possibly be your ancestor.
Regards,
Alison, QLD Australia.
(mutual AMOR/WHEELER descendant)
Dear Allycat,, thanks for the info but none of those three are related. I have actually traced my William, born 1836 Harwich, Suffolk then emigrated to NZ about 1852. His sister Sarah was married to Sir James Kinsey and they emigrated after that. If you want any info on my line of Garrards please ask. Cheers (and Kerrie says hullo) Sue
Hi Kerrie - I'm curious if your William had sisters (3) who married three Wright brothers and came to Canada at that time. I also noted that one sister you mentioned married a Kinsey...I am related to one of the Wright brothers who was married to Maria Garrard and also to a Tacy Kinsey whose family emigrated to America in the early 1700's.
Dear dougiesmom, Unforunately William did not have 3 sisters married to 3 Wright brothers nor did any of his family go to Canada to my knowledge, they all (baring one, Emily) emigrated to NZ. William's younger sister, Sarah Ann married James Joseph Kinsey (later to become Sir James) but of the Kinsey line I have no knowledge, he was born in 1852 Plumstead, Kent UK and died in NZ in 1936, sum total of my knowledge. Also to my knowledge there are no Marias in the family, happy hunting
Hi K.Robinson.
There is a Maori family in Gisborne who go under the name of Garrard.
Tom Garrard drove stock removers for a trucking Co named H.B.T, of Hastings and the rest of N.Z.
