William Greenwood of United Kingdom Who Went to Australia IN 1886 7

By 1OLIVETREE April 12, 2015 1533 views 19 comments

Hello

I am searching for a relative - a long ago relative - who made his way to Australia in 1886-7 with his wife, Margaret Emmaline Wait.

On the way a daughter was born whilst they were still at sea.

As far as I can see the ship on which they sailed was the Alcinor, or a name like that.

Thank you.

How kind of you to respond, and so quickly.

Margaret Emmaline's family name is WAIT.

Do you think that Margaret, being a widow with name of WATSON, might have returned to her original family name of WAIT?

I shall see if I can find more details for you and send them on in a short while.

Do you need details for William Greenwood prior to his marriage to Margaret Emmaline Watson nee Wait.

Census Details

1OLIVETREE

Thank you again.

I would love any details that you have.

This is a part of the family I know nothing about.

I know that the Greenwood family is now very established in Australia.

I, however, am in Italy, and doing this research.

Best wishes

This is a miracle of the first order: thank you.

Do you only work on the Greenwoods?

I am searching for my great-grandparents on both sides.

The Camerons are the Others.

Very difficult to track them down, especially as there appear to be little mistakes (like the one saying that my grandmother was a boy!).

They can be very misleading.

I am very grateful to you.

Best wishes

So possible birth is around 1827 I had a quick look at the births for Lancashire but it may take some time to find anything.

Do you have a death for William or Margaret Emmaline in Australia - giving parents details. Have fathers names from the Marriage in 1884 hoping for a mothers name to help with search.

Ancestry research is purely a hobby. It keeps my mind active.

I don't do specific name research I have a look at the post and if I can find something I post it to help the person researching.

There are many kind helpful people on this wonderful site that help others and they have helped me many times, so in return I like to help other people when and if I can. It's enjoyable and I have the time.

1OLIVETREE

Thank you again.

It's certainly fascinating.

I am looking for the parents of my Scots grandfather, who was born in Adelaide, South Australia.

He was born in May 1886 and his name was ARCHIBALD JOSEPH CAMERON.

He married Mary Trethowen.

The papers I have found are for an ARCHIBALD JOHN CAMERON, born on the same date in Adelaide.

If he is the one, then I have also found his parents, but it's hard to know if there may have been two Camerons, or whether there was a mistake in calling him John!

Like the mistake in saying that my grandmother was a boy!

Thank you for all of your work.

You must help many people.

Best wishes

I thought I had left you a message re the ship but looks like I had not.
On the morning of the 4 June 1887 there were six sailing vessels in the harbour at Hobsons Bay one of them was reported to be the 'ALCINOUS' from Liverpool, after a fine weather passage of 94 days. Captain D. Brown in command and consigned to Messrs. J. and A Brown. I don't have a passenger list but do know there were 23 in second cabin and steerage. I believe all passengers alighted in Melbourne and the vessel loaded with kerosene for Sydney.
From Melbourne it went on to Sydney, Newcastle where it loaded up with 2455 tons of coal (Dalgety and Co. Ltd. agents)and sailed to San Francisco, which was a regular voyage..
