My mother was adopted by Bertie Irwin and Evelyn Matthews when she was only 10 days old, so I'm not a blood relative. We are building up quite a file on this branch --- where do you fit in?

Hi Wayne -- thankyou for your private reply to me -- I see you are descended from William Alfred Stevens via his daughter Alice. I've also got contact with Sondrae (desc from Henry Stevens via his daughter Harriet), Carol (desc from Henry via his daughter Ellen) and Marion who is dscended from Ernest Irwin. So you can see we have a nice little team going in this family tree search.

Hi Glynne

And I am a descendent of William Alfred via his son George Henry so we're slowing filling in all of the gaps.

Jan, if you are the one I think, I've been trying to contact you via e-mail (maybe you've changed address) but you are the one who told me the story about JJS in the first place. Would love to hear from you.

We are seeking descendants of George Henry Stevens b. 26.04.1883,in particular those related to Lila Collins. George Henry Stevens married Alice Kate Webster on 11.07.1906, he was the son of William Alfred Stevens, b. 20.04.1850 in Bald Hills NSW who had married Maria Elizabeth Bryant, married 15.12.1875 in Ashford,NSW. One of their daughters was Thelma Adelaide Steven born 24-10-1907 and she married Garrett Baston Macey and they had a daughter Lila Mary (Topsy) Macey who married John Collins, he was born in Rockhampton, they married in Moree date unknown. Lila and John had five children, Rosemary, Phillip, .Andrew, Jenny, and John. We are trying to trace where the name Lila came from, as it is also common in my branch of the family whose ancestors are also John James Shufflebottom and Ellen nee Butler, who are my great great grandparents linked by their daughter Harriett Ann who married Albert Phillips. We feel that there must be some family connection to the name Lila as it has now appeared in two branches in Australia, and we found other Macey families in the USA and England who had the name Lila in branches of their family, yet it is a most uncommon name and we feel there must be some family connection to the name that keeps it coming back in the various branches - any help given or any clues will be most appreciated.

Hello Rockborne,
William Alfred Stevens was my g grandfather and his daughter Alice married Charles Wilby. I can't shed any light on the name Lila, but maybe able to assist with any exchange of information on Shufflebotham/Stevens.

Regards
Wayne Wilby

Just a note about the Stevens son named on this site as Henry Thomas Stevens (see note above by Glynne 4th March 09) 1856-1940 who married Elizabeth Stevenson. On his birth certificate he is just Henry Stevens, no Thomas in his name, although we do not have his death cert and he may have adapted that as his second name during his life. His wife, Elizabeth Stevenson, was the daughter of a man named Charles Stevenson, but that was not his correct name, he was really Charles Stevens, but at various times in his life he used the name Stevenson, Stevens, Stephens, Stephenson, and there is an interesting story about what happened to his first wife, before he married again and Elizabeth was a daughter of that second marriage. For those who would like more detail, please send private message for that info.

We have details of the family tree for all of the children of John James Shufflebottom and Ellen nee Butler, some down to the 7th generation, some not quite that far. If anybody who is related to John and Ellen would like obtain copies of any of the trees, please send us a PM and we will be happy to email them to you. We are in contact with cousins from the family lines of Harriett Phillips nee Stevens (born 1845) , and with cousins in 3 separate lines from Henry Stevens born 1856, and would welcome contact with any members from any of the other lines, after all, we are all cousins, even if some time 10 times removed. My grandfather was a son of Harriett nee Stevens/Shufflebottom and her husband Albert Phillips, they married in 1870

My husband and I are reseaching both sides of our family trees, and for that reason we have joined so many family tree sites on the web. We sometimes receive pm's from others who say they are members of the same family, and we urge all family members to be so careful about giving too much of their family tree to those who contact you by pm, unless you can first establish they are indeed members of your family, especially any info that shows the family down to current generation who are still alive, especially that is important in these days where we hear so much about identity theft. In each case we have had somebody contact us, we insist on them giving us some more details about the family connection before we provide details that we have from our research, and if we establish their bone fides, we are happy to share. But we do want to emphasise, be careful, because we have had one pm from another site who could provide not one thing to establish any connection with this family so we gave them nothing, perhaps we were wrong, maybe they did have a connection, but we decided better to be sure than be sorry later for giving info to the wrong people.
