Rainey of Georgia/California/Ohio

I am researching the Raineys of Georgia. What I have so far is Howell Calhoune Rainey was born November 26, 1886 in Georgia. He had four living siblings: Alma 1889 Ga., Sallie 1890 Al., Frank 1892 Al., and Tom 1897 Ga. Howell Calhoune Rainey's father was William Cicero Rainey born in Georgia in 1856 and drowned June, 1897 in the Etowah river. He was a resident of Euharlee, Georgia. (see The Courant American Newspaper July 1, 1897 Page 1).

Howell C. Rainey's mother was Gillie Rainey nee Nelson.
She was born November, 1859 in Georgia. She married William Cicero Rainey in Bartow County, Georgia on December 14, 1881. (see: The Cartersville Free Press Newspaper, December 15, 1881 Page 3)
She died in 1923 in Bartow County, Georgia and is buried with her husband William and her son Frank at the Euharlee Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Euharlee, Georgia.
Gillie Nelson Rainey's parents were Elihu G. Nelson born February 14, 1825 in South Carolina. He died March 5, 1871 when the bridge over the Euharlee Creek collapsed. (See The Cartersville Express, March 7, 1871 Page 3)
Elihu Nelson's mother was Gilly Holt. Elihu Nelson's father was Josiah Nelson born about 1794 in South Carolina and died before November 25, 1848. Josiah's father was William Nelson born about 1770-1780 and died 1848-1852 in Laurens Co. South Carolina.

Gillie's mother was Albinia Nelson nee Bailey. Albinia Lucetta Nelson Bailey was born in March 23,1840 in South Carolina and married Elihu G. Nelson on February 9, 1858. She died in 1891 and is buried in the Euharlee Presbyterian cemetery in Bartow County, Georgia.
Albinia's mother was Debbie Ann Coleman. Debbie Ann was the first wife of Felix Coleman Bailey and the mother of three girls and three boys, all born in South Carolina. Edwin W. Bailey died young, February 1, 1840; and E. V. Bailey, daughter, also died young, September 1, 1845. Sarah Elizabeth was born December 4, 1832 and died in June 1884. She was married on November 13, 1849 to John Yarbrough. Jason Thompson Bailey born November 7, 1837 and died August 3,1909. He was married July 1, 1858 to Louisa A. Wingo. Otis Lawton Bailey was probably the oldest son of Felix and Debbie since he was made the executor of his father's estate. Otis died after 1870. He married America Cochran.

Because Felix Bailey had two marriages, many genealogists have listed Nancy Rogers as the mother of Albinia and her five siblings. Please note that Nancy Young Rogers was the STEP-MOTHER of Albinia, Sarah, Otis, Jason, E.V. and Edwin. The second marriage between Nancy and Felix Coleman Bailey produced two daughters, both born in Georgia. Their names were Lettie Francis born June 6, 1854 and died November 7, 1915. She married J. Thomas Lloyd. The other daughter was Evalina Lucetta Bailey, born Octber 5, 1856, who married John F. Arnold.

Albinia's father was Felix Coleman Bailey. He was born in 1808 in South Carolina. He moved his family to Euharlee, Georgia around 1840 and died 1868 in Bartow county, Georgia.

Returning to Howell Calhoune Rainey:
It appears that Howell Calhoune Rainey had two marriages. The first was to Ruby M. Bailey on December 6, 1908. Ruby Bailey was born February, 1892 in Georgia. There were three children born to this marriage: Lucille Rainey,(born September 28, 1909 Ga, died July 25, 1990 in Rossville, Indiana) Howell Milton Rainey (born August 24, 1912 Ga.. died July 4, 1957 in Monterey California.) Ruby Rainey (born March 30, 1915 Ga. died February 25, 2005 in Oakland, Michigan).

Ruby Rainey, Howell Calhoune's first wife is in Fulton County, Georgia with her three children on the 1920 census. She is listed as working in a candy factory. It says she is married, but the husband is not in the home.
I have not found a record of divorce for Ruby and Howell but Ruby remarried a man named (?)Harold Bennett. She was murdered by him in Gainesville, Florida on Thanksgiving day, 1929. Ruby's daughter Lucille was also shot by Harold Bennett and her husband, Herman Stafford, was mortally wounded and died a week later.

Lucille married Obie Franklin Stafford, Herman's brother, on December 31, 1931. He died April 24, 1950. Lucille had three children. Mildred, Howell Franklin, and Patricia.

The son, Howell Milton was in California in 1930.
Howell Milton married Barbara Spelger in 1935. They had three children: Virginia Christine born May 20, 1937, Richard Alexander born March 26, 1939 died March 8, 1990 and Barbara Kathleen, July 3, 1943, died 2010.

The daughter Ruby was in the care of her grandmother, Della Bailey Underwood in Bartow County, Georgia on the 1930 census.

The second marriage of Howell Calhoune Rainey was to Helen Still, born March 24, 1905 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The marriage was October 2, 1922 at the Columbia Methodists church in Cincinnati, Ohio. There were four children born of this marriage. Helen, born 1924, Harvey, born 1925, James W., born 1926 and Joyce (Cherry)born 1928.
Helen Still is the daughter of James Still born @ 1864 in Ohio and Ella Brinckly born @ 1869. Ella Brinckly Still Dustin died January 2, 1962 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Helen Still is listed on the 1910 Ohio Census in Clermont County, Batavia. She is with her stepfather Harold Dustin, her mother Ella (Nelli), her 15 year old sister Anna Belle, her ll year old sister Matilda and her half sister Katherine, age 2.
Helen Still is on the Ohio 1930 census listed as Helen Ramey age 24. Head of household is her husband, Howell Rainey, who is listed as Howard Ramey, age 39. They have three children. Helen, age 6, Harvey, age 5, and James, age 3. This is in Cincinnati, Hamilton County.
Howell Rainey is buried at the Newtown Cemetery in Anderson Township in Hamilton County in Cincinnati, Ohio. He died March 13, 1935. It was a result of an accident while working on the railroad. The death certificate lists cause of death as brain tumor.
Helen Still Rainey died November 5, 1997 and is buried in Cincinnati, Ohio at Arlington Cemetery on Compton Road.

I need to find proof that William Cicero Rainey (1856-1897) is the second son of William Warren Rainey (1832-1910) and Francis Jett. Once this link is established, I can take this family back to Thomas Rainey (1771-1850) of South Carolina.

UPDATE: May 16, 2011

I made a trip to Euharlee, Georgia and was helped by Mildred Starkbaum at the Cartersville Genealogy society. She had a book, The History of Euharlee, and in three different places in this book it refers to Gillie Nelson as having married L. Cicero Rainey. So the link I needed was found. William Cicero Rainey is L. Cicero Rainey, born 1856 in Georgia to William Warren Rainey and Frances Jett Rainey. His brother was Zebulon P. Rainey(1854) and he had a sister, California (Callie) Rainey(1858). To follow this line back, go to www.bauer.uh.edu/parks/genealogy/Rainey.htm. You can also go to ancestry.com and search public members trees for the Rainey,Lange,Kline,Becker tree.

I am also desperately looking for a picture of Howell Calhoune Rainey. (1886-1935)

Helpful websites are: http://www.gabartow.org and http://www.bauer.uh.edu/parks/genealogy/Rainey.htm
I also found rootsweb to be helpful.
