Update: It would be appreciated if journals were written in proper sentence case of upper and lower styles instead of fully blocked upper case as this denotes 'screaming'. Save the caps lock for surnames so that they stand out. Thank you.

Also, can we please have subject headings for new journals pertinent and to the point. Example, 'Looking for SMITH and CARTER from Pennsylvannia' instead of trying to have one's life story in the topic heading and nothing in the journal body.

If your computer is anything like mine, your Bookmarks toolbar folder will be full of all the favourite websites relating to genealogy. Instead of chokking up your PC, share with everyone your favourite websites. Just update your Profile on FamilyTreeCircles, and cut and paste the links in. That way if ever your computers chuck a wobbly (as they do LOL), you won't lose all your favourite websites that could take you ages to find again.

In addition, let us know where you are from in this big wide world of ours.

Who are you researching? Write a journal. And add all your surnames you are researching at the one time by entering them in the Bulk Surname Registration spot.

Helpful Tip/s:-

Your journal/s will be found here at FamilyTreeCircles by others searching the World Wide Web if you have appropriate key words within your subject headings (Journal Title). That's how the internet works, people can type in say a key phrase like Greatbatch + genealogy and receive the following as their first search listing.

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,050 for greatbatch genealogy. (0.27 seconds)

You're looking at research information and queries posted by other genealogy researchers like yourself. Register now and connect with other researchers. ...

And the more journals you write, the more you will flood the internet with data on your unique surname. Then you will highly increase your chances of being contacted by another descendant or family historian researching the same surname/s.

And please don't subscribe to yourself. Subscriptions here are to let you know what other user/s are interested in the same surnames as yourself.

Don't forget to add the surnames that your journal is about, separating with commas and using ALL CAPITALS. That way once you click on the surnames they will become clickable linsk back to the surname wiki pages (if created), other researchers and their journals.

Also, if anyone is interested enough in helping creating the surname wiki pages, just send a personal message to Scott_J our webmaster and creator of this wonderful site.

Oh and please don't write your journals all in capital letters as it is almost like the writer is screaming on the internet. Full capitals are best used for surnames.

Dear Readers, Hi. Please don't write your journals in uppercase. For starters, this is very hard on the eyes and difficult to read. Also etiquette-wise it denotes 'yelling/screaming' on the internet.

Please save the CAPITAL LETTERS (UPPERCASE) for the surnames of your ancestors etc. so that it stands out within your journal.

Search for your surnames on the Internet with these search engine secrets:-


Find your surname

The Surname Navigator ... this search engine is great, you just click on a country from the drop down list, type in your surname, then press the search button. About 12 window boxes will open up full of information to sift through.

Ancestor Hunt - Free Genealogy Search Engines. This website is absolutely enormous, too much to list here, have a look for yourself.

Dear members,

The more journals you submit here via FamilyTreeCircles the more you will increase your chances of another descendant or researcher contacting you. {Flood the internet with your info.}

Just as an example, to pick one of the more obscure names from my family tree by googling on the internet and seeing what comes up:-

G o o g l e GREATBATCH GENEALOGY


and you will see that it took .22 of a second out of 1,030 possible search results to come up with FamilyTreeCircles as the second search listing.

Make sure you have your subject headings as being appropriate, i.e.

Looking for GREATBATCH family of Sussex, England

so SURNAME, location and country.... then include your known details in body of journal. It is so frustrating to see a possible connection to your family tree and then only have a subject heading and no data.
