My grandmother ADA MATILDA OESCHGER [NEE BEVERIDGE] was born 4th November 1874 1 Albert Terrace, St Pancras [now Lyme Street]. She was the baby of the family. Her eldest sister was ELIZABETH MARY ANN BEVERIDGE born 11th OCtober 1866 who married William Harry Dean, the next child was ELLEN JANE BEVERIDGE born 19th January 1871 also born at Albert Terrace.ELLEN MARRIED ARTHUR LESLIE GIBBENS and they emigrated to Australia. Then JAMES ALBERT BEVERIDGE born 10th January 1873.
On all their birth certificates
mother is ELIZABETH BEVERIDGEE [nee BATES] and father is JAMES BEVERIDGE. Strangely enough on all census returns Elizabeth refers to herself as a W [widow] and James is never at home.
Elizabeth died 23rd November 1886 at 103 College Street [born 1843 Lambeth]when the eldest was 19 and my grandmother only just 12 years.
The name Beveridge is so common and Bates too - please can somebody help me find the man who fathered her children. I have not been able to find a marriage. He is listed as a Commercial Traveller, a Picture Dealer and a Printer Pressman on birth certificates of the children.
