I know very little about my great grandfather John and his wife Sarah (nee HOLDEN) They were from Hungerford, Berkshire in the mid 1800s, and later shifted to London.

John was supposedly the ''tallest man in the Guards." No one knows which guards.

John and Sarah had one son, William Martin born April 1882.

William Martin married Eleanor ARGENT on 25th December 1907 and had two children; William Henry (1908) and my father George (1912)

The family emigrated to New Zealand in 1924 and settled in Christchurch. There is a large WARD contingent in NZ and Australia.
