Looking for info on James Butler Walker born Tennessee, possibly Knox Co area in 1860. Brother named William. They came to Texas as young men. James Butler Walker married Mary Elizabeth Knoy in Texas. He died Dec 31, 1935 in Johnson County, Texas.
Family Lore: Can't prove any of it. His mother died when he was young. Father fought in Civil War and died after war. Some kind of dispute over estate, possibly with step-mother. He and William left for Texas. It is said he did not talk much about his past. Some in family thought he was running from something.
His death certificate does not have parents names.
William settled somewhere in east Texas. Have not been able to find any info on him.
This has been a brick wall for a long time. Beginning to think they didn't come from Tennessee or their name wasn't Walker.
