I am a Wolfe looking for information about my great-great grandfather Johann A. Wolf (Oct 16 1846-May 26 1925), born in Saxony or Germany, died in Lockport, Illinois. He is sometimes called John after immigrating to America. One census appears to have him listed as Henry.

His wife's name is Augusta B. Schuman (assuming Augusta Bertha Schuman) and sometimes goes by Bertha (1846-1918). They are the parents of my great grandfather Arnold Franz Wolf (1871-1917).

Johann immigrated to the US between 1883-1884. His family (wife and kids) appear to have immigrated the following year. Johann appears to have been naturalized on Oct. 18 1892 and may have a relative Frank A. Wolfe (Johann was a witness at Frank's naturalization and they have naturalization cards dated the same day, same location, in Joliet, Illinois).

Johann and Augusta would have married in Germany/Saxony and had several children there before immigrating. According to Johann's death record, he states his father was born in Germany and lists "don't know" under mother's birthplace.

I do not have Johann Wolf's parent's names, nor any specific town names to do a more thorough search on birth/marriage records. I similarly don't have much info on his wife, Augusta, except that her father's name is John Schuman. I also strangely can't find an obituary for either Johann or his wife, even though they both died in Will County, Illinois.

Has anyone encountered these ancestors in their research? Or any research tips, like German ancestry sites that don't require a town name to start a search? I've looked through just about every relevant record on Ancestry, FamilySearch, and MyHeritage and it just seems like a dead end. Which is really sad considering how closely I'm related to him and share his (modified) last name.
